As a content writer do you ever feel that you’re just out in the internet floundering around trying to figure out what’s going on?

I felt like that to.  When I was a new content writer I knew that I wanted to succeed on my own, which mean that I had to bring myself up to speed if I was ever going to compete.  I decided to narrow my focus and picked certain blogs and certain people that I would follow and try to learn from.

Over time I was able to narrow down the blogs that I wanted to follow and the people that I wanted to follow.

I chose the ones that I could learn the most from.  These 5 blogs made the list. They are putting out stuff and are offering great advice on how you can create great content and put out your best writing pieces to get the business that you are looking for.

I created this list of the top blogs that I follow because I feel that they are the most valuable for what I do.

These blogs not only offer great articles, free resources and how to’s and tutorials, but some of them also produce podcasts and live streaming video shows where they discuss ideas with guests that offer even more value! These blogs will help you learn faster and better so you can then put all that advice into actionable steps to improve your writing business.

The internet space, as you know, is constantly changing and with each change, there are new technologies introduced, new tools that are suggested and new ideas that are shared.

It’s important for you as a content writer to stay up on these trends and events so you can best serve your customers. Make sure that you bookmark these websites, share your email with them so you get on their email list and take advantage of all the free advice and resources that they are offering and you will see it is different in your business in 2016.

Content Marketing and Copywriting Articles

Considered by VentureBeat to be the “bible of content marketing”, Copyblogger nails it. This is my favorite and has been for a long time. I was first introduced to Copyblogger over on Google+. I was, and am a follower of one of my favorite copywriters, Demian Farnworth. He is one of the absolute best. For a while, I only paid attention to Demian’s posts, then I started listening to the The Lede podcast ( no longer airing. but check out past episodes HERE) and subsequently started paying even more attention to the great stuff that Copyblogger cranked out.

Founder  Brian Clark  is part of Copyblogger. This podcasting network offers some great podcasts, such as, The Showrunner, The Writer Files, HitPublish. , YouPreneur and Confessions of a Pink-Haired Marketer.

I don’t know about you but I am a creative soul, most of the time and when it comes to SEO and the science of content marketing, I struggle. There is one person that consistently makes me say, “Well, now I get it.”, and that is the wizard himself. Rand Fishkin. He can take very complex topics and with the wave of a dry erase marker make me understand analytics, statistics and other mathy, sciency stuff.

The tagline for the Moz Blog sums it up.

My Favorite Copywriting Blogs

A while ago I had an online show about building a writing business, called The Writing Biz. One of the things that I encouraged my audience to do is set aside time in their schedule for learning. I called it increasing your “learning equity”. I believe that as freelancers it’s imperative that we take the time to learn new skills and absorb other people’s ideas. This is what keeps us competitive and engaged.
Writing is a skill that can always be improved upon. Many copywriters have a natural talent for writing, but the talent is not everything.
