Smart Phone Videos as Book Trailers Super Fast and Easy

Videos. That is THE marketing buzzword of 2014!

I was lucky enough to be on a panel of an amazing Google Hangout Show. It was the Independent Publisher’s of New England’s (IPNE) show Indie Office hours with Charlotte Pierce of Pierce Press. The topic today was “Super Fast Video Book Trailers” with Bruce Jones of Bruce Jones Designs (www.BruceJonesDesigns.com).

Bruce explained and demonstrated how you can use your smart phone to create a book trailer videos that can be uploaded right to YouTube, where you can take care of some basic editing and BOOM! there it is. Fast Start Video Tips for Making Effective Business Videos

Here are the questions you need to ask yourself before hitting record:

  • Who are you?
  • What do you have?
  • What will it do for your viewer?
  • What do you want your viewer to do next?
The answers to these 4 questions will give you the information you need to include in your video to drive your customer to follow through with your call to action. Then come up with 3 or 4 bullet points that help answer those questions. A great suggestion that Bruce made was to use a Post-It-Note to make sure you cover your bullet points. Write them on the note and just stick it to the bottom of your phone to remind you of what you want to include in your video. Voila!

Now many of you may be asking yourself about the quality of the video and audio.

No, it will not look like videos that someone spent 1000’s of dollars on. But really, who cares? The versatility of doing it this way more than makes up for any lack of quality. The applications inside and outside of book marketing are stupefying. In the case of book marketing you can film readers as they review your book live from a book signing event, you can add videos as you visit different events and you can even do read-aloud clips of your book’s content,make a blurb on when your book is mentioned in a publication or show and on an on.

This is a real, man-on-the-street way to build a relationship with your readers (customers).

YouTube is the #2 Search Engine!!! Use it. Take advantage of the opportunities this FREE platform offers you! A couple of days ago I listened to terrific podcast. Taming the Social Media Monster Podcast Episode: YouTube Marketing with Casey Zeman. This podcast offered a great amount of information on how to best optimize your videos for search engines. One thing that was covered is how to “think” like YouTube and write descriptions accordingly.

Here is the best advice I can offer you.

Don’t just take your videos and add them toYouTube and then applaud yourself for what a great job you did. Share them. Move them through your marketing channels. If you are not driving your content they are just cool videos, they are not a marketing tool. This requires thought and work but if you are not making an effort to get your information seen than you are restricting your sales. Why on earth would you want to do that?
